Rollpanna is Melonpanna and Creampanda’s older sister and the tritagonist in series. She was originally created as Melonpanna‘s friend, but became her older sister upon Melonpanna’s request.

Background[]

Before Rollpanna was being created, her sister Melonpanna found a rare flower called “The Flower of Pure Heart”, which blooms once every 10 years and can make a bread person selfless, brave, and kind. With its pollen and Melonpanna’s melon juice mixed in the dough, Rollpanna was supposed to be born as a heroine of both kindness and strength, but a tragic incident changed her fate completely.

Baikinman heard that another bread hero is about to be born. To prevent his enemies from having another ally, he added a bad ingredient, Baikin Grass, to the mix, which caused Rollpanna to be born with two hearts; One good and one bad, and they change irregularly regardless of her own will. Her bad heart is triggered when she sees Anpanman or when Anpanman is mentioned. Her good heart is triggered when she sees Melonpanna. Because of this, her evil half is a powerful ally to Baikinman, who attempts to keep Melonpanna away when Rollpanna is battling Anpanman.

Rollpanna is aware of what she does, and stays away from everyone. She decides to live in the mountains,so she doesn’t hurt anyone. Despite this, she will appear if Melonpanna calls for her or if Baikinman triggers her bad heart. After Baikinman is defeated, she returns to the mountains.

Appearance[]

Rollpanna is always seen with a white, turban like wrap around her head and face, marked with a red R, for Rollpanna. She has a curly lock of dark brown hair sticking out of her turban. Her eyes are a turquoise blue, and her cape is a bright cyan. Rollpanna's outfit is mostly black, with a white belt, gloves, and shoes. On her chest are two hearts that represent her good and evil side. The one on the left is red, the symbol of love, and the one on the right is blue, the symbol of hatred. When she is happy, her red heart glows.

Personality[]

Rollpanna is a very quiet and cautious girl. She doesn’t speak much and mostly keeps to herself, but wouldn’t hesitate to help out someone if needed. She also cares deeply to Melonpanna, as she always helps Melonpanna when she calls out for her. Rollpanna also likes flowers and animals. However, she also doesn’t like showing her emotions to anyone, this can be seen when she was upset after she saw a sketch of her playing with a bird.

Abilities[]

Rollpanna has the ability to hear her sister’s call regardless of her location.

Like Anpanman, Currypanman, Shokupanman, Creampanda and Melonpanna, she has the ability to fly, though she seems to fly at a faster speed than the others.

Weapons and Equipment[]

Rollpanna's main weapon is a gymnastics ribbon. She can use it to wrap up her enemies or cause tornadoes.

Black Rollpanna[]

When Rollpanna’s blue heart glows or when she is exposed to adequate amounts of Baikin grass, Rollpanna becomes Black Rollpanna. In this form, her turban/head wrap turns a dark grayish black. Her belt, gloves, and shoes turn black as well. Rollpanna's eye color changes from blue to red, and the blue heart on her chest tends to glow brighter. Her personality also becomes very aggressive and scary, and her main goal is to defeat Anpanman. She can also electrocute her opponents with her ribbon and turn them to stone.

Usually, when Black Rollpanna hears Melonpanna’s voice, or makes contact with Melonpanna’s melon juice, she calms down and reverts back to her good form. Since the effects of Baikin Grass are temporary, it is impossible to be Black Rollpanna all the time. When the effects weaken, her hostility to Anpanman would also decrease. However, there are very few special circumstances in which this is not the case.

Complete Black Rollpanna[]

During the episode 654 “Futari no Rollpanna”, Dr. Hiyari created an experiment in which the good and evil Rollpannas are completely split apart. With only the blue heart on the evil half, she becomes a ruthless and destructive killing machine, who wants to destroy everything. She has no memories of her good self, completely ignores Baikinman’s commands, and even attacks her dearest sister. Her combat skills are sky high, and she can immediately eliminate Anpanman, Currypanman, and Shokupanman all at once.

During the movie “Roll To Laura, Ukigumojou no Himitsu”, Rollpanna was struck by a blinding beam of light made from excessive amounts of Baikin Grass, and she blackened into a form of Black Rollpanna with the red heart completely absorbed by the blue heart. The “R” on her turban changed to the letter “B”, representing “BLACK”.

Relationships[]

Anpanman[]

Rollpanna's unintentional enemy. Her bad heart created by Baikainman will cause her to attack him whenever he is mentioned or seen. Despite this, Anpanman doesn't see her as an enemy. This is likewise with the good Rollpanna who stays away from everyone, including Anpanman, so no one is hurt.

Melonpanna[]

Rollpanna's younger sister. Rollpanna cares deeply for Melonpanna, always coming to help her if called. The sight of Melonpanna can cause Rollpanna to revert to normal, while mentioning her causes her evil half to hesitate. In one episode, Rollpanna's fear of losing her sister comes to play while she is having a nightmare.

Currypanman[]

The two get along and could be considered friends. They first met when Uncle Jam took everyone on a trip to snow mountains close to where Rollpanna was. In a huff, Currypanman flew into snow, causing Rollpanna to laugh. The two talked and were able to work together to escape from an avalanche. Despite this, even Currypanman isn't able to stop Rollpanna's evil heart, though he also causes her to hesitate. Like Anpanman, he doesn't blame her for her evil half.

During one attack, Rollpanna remembers him flying into the mountains as a fond memory.

Shokupanman[]

Like Currypanman, the two get along and could be considered friends. They first met during a rainstorm when Shokupanman's truck broke down and he had to spend the night in the forest. Rollpanna stumbled across him and ran a fever. He looked after her while she was unconscious. Despite her telling him to leave her alone and acting cold to him, they warmed up to each other when Rollpanna woke up from a nightmare and he comforted her. When Anpanman appeared and triggered Rollpanna's bad heart, Shokupanman was able to get her to calm down and revert back to normal (the first person besides Melonpanna to do so) by showing her a flower the two had been looking after the night before. Rollpanna left soon after, not wanting to hurt him. Like Currypanman, Rollpanna's bad heart can hesitate when she sees Shokupanman. He doesn't blame her for attacking him or his friends due to knowing about her bad heart.

Baikinman[]

Rollpanna's enemy and unintentional ally. Baikainman is responsible for creating her bad heart and making her stay away from everyone, including her sister. She holds a grudge against him for this, but is forced to participate in some of his plans when he triggers her bad heart.

Dokinchan[]

The two don't interact much, though Rollpanna seems to tolerate her. Despite knowing that she is an ally of Baikinman, Rollpanna does trust what Dokichan says as she followed her when Dokichan said Melonpanna was being held captive (though this could have been her protectiveness of her sister).

Trivia[]

To many fans, Rollpanna is seen as a tragic heroine. This is because she has no intention of doing anything evil, but rather because of Baikinman's antics which leads to Rollpanna being evil and scary temporarily.

Despite being referred to as Melonpanna’s older sister (due to Rollpanna being taller and more mature), she is actually the younger of the two sisters, since she was born after Melonpanna. However, due to Melonpanna’s desire for an older sister, she is still being referred to as her big sister.

Rollpanna is never seen with her turban off. However, in episode 753, "Rollpanna and Mrs. Dokudami", there is a scene where she takes off her mask and drinks the tea Mrs. Dokudami made. However, her back was facing the camera, so her true face remains a mystery.

Miina Tominaga also voices Dokinchan after Hiromi Tsuru (Dokinchan's original voice actress) passed on in 2017.
